There’s a lot to love about the plan.

With the 100th Anniversary just around the corner, a brand-new clubhouse will have Twin Hills Golf and Country Club well on its way to another century of success.

As if the onset of a distressing pandemic was not enough, an August 2020 fire destroyed the Twin Hills club kitchen, adding to an anxiety-filled year.  But the Club board and staff worked through the setbacks to develop plans for a $6.4 million renovation, scheduled to begin in early 2022.

In addition to the kitchen-ravaging fire, the Club’s dining and banquet area endured significant smoke damage. With loss of the kitchen also came the loss of ovens and food storage, putting an immediate halt to the Club’s ability to host banquets and hampered its proven methods of hosting golf tournaments.

The renovation plans call for leaving the original clubhouse (the east half of the club) in place after significant cosmetic upgrades. The new west half will celebrate the same architectural style, continuing the timeless charm and character of the original clubhouse design.

Front/East Exterior Elevation

The main level will be dramatically changed as we rebuild, renovate, and restore. The entry and office will remain similar in their footprint, but you will now be greeted by a gallery hall straight ahead with views through the building. To the right will reside the Member Pub, aptly named Maxwell’s Pub & Grille after our course architect. With a dramatic bar and intimate dining seating, Maxwell’s will become a must visit venue at the Club. After removing the current north porch, we will be able to uncover the new outdoor pub porch which is restored from the clubhouse footprint and will provide beautiful views of the course.

Down the gallery hallway will be a member dining room, one that can also be used as flex space to host larger member gatherings. The room will include pocket doors to an adjoining private dining room. The focal point of the room is its orientation around a large fireplace and the doors that spill out to the west porch.

By reorienting the kitchen to the south will be able to move the service drive and kitchen entrance to the south side of the building. This allows the kitchen to interact more closely with member dining, even to the basement dining outlets via a dumbwaiter. The west view of the building is easily the most dramatic improvement of the building.

The Main Level

The new west addition will replace the existing three-story covered balcony, delivering new views from the relocated second floor Member Dining Room and ground floor 19th hole. The 19th Hole on the lower level will now be mixed couples’ venue, to be named Picard’s Grill. The area will pay tribute to Henry Picard, who once served as the golf professional at Twin Hills. Mr. Picard was the 1938 Masters champion and then won the PGA crown the following season. With the expanded 19th Hole, views of hole #9 and other holes on the front nine will finally be able to be enjoyed by Twin Hills members and guests.

Lower Level

The north entry tower will allow access to the member level. The Men’s Locker Room will maintain its current footprint with some upgrades to finishes, including a Card Room on the north side of the locker room. The Halfway House turn venue will become more efficient in size, while continuing to serve the members well. The Men’s 19th Hole will be all new and oriented around a fireplace, with a bar, and doors to the west porch. The Ladies’ Locker Room will be all new with access to the west lower-level porch for dining. Fitness will be situated on the south side of the building near the new service entry tower.

The exterior of the building will be dramatically different with the removal of the service drive, addition of a scoreboard plaza, and 3,000 square feet of outdoor dining area on the west and north facing porches.

Interior Design Inspiration

Working with local architect Mike Hinchey, longtime club member Tom Hoch (of Tom Hoch Designs) designed the new clubhouse. Chris Wilson of Anderson & House, Inc., is the general contractor. This reimagined clubhouse interior will be outfitted with quality appointments, creatively arranged to evoke a sense of style that is comfortable and inviting.

Get ready to sit back and enjoy casual club living at Twin Hills well into our bright future.
